SEVRA Gear — The Story Behind
RipLok™
A release mechanism designed to allow your leg bag to detach under abnormal load, whilst remaining secure during normal riding.
The Origin
Every new design has an origin. This one started with a post I couldn't scroll past.
Like a lot of riders, I'd worn a leg bag without a second thought. Then I came across this post in a motorcycle group, a woman sharing what had happened to her partner, a post that would go on to reach thousands of riders.
The Research
I spent all of August researching the leg bag market only to discover that none of them had considered this risk.
Nobody plans on being involved in an accident and every crash is different; but I could build a leg bag that considers this risk and reduces it.
What Happened Next
I got to work, partnering with a UK manufacturer on the design.
What followed was months of testing: velcro strengths, sizing, positioning, working through combinations until something consistently worked. Some designs released cleanly under certain loads but resisted others. Downward pressure in particular caused problems. In a crash you don't get to choose the angle, so anything that was selective wasn't good enough. When we finally had a setup that was secure and released consistently from any direction, we moved on to designing the bag.
The Rider
I have since met and spoken with the rider being discussed in this post.
Thankfully he is back out riding as of April 2026, after a long recovery due to multiple surgeries removing fabric from deep inside his leg. I offered him a SEVRA RipLok™ Leg Bag — not only is he confident it would have stopped his injury, he rides wearing our leg bag.
I learnt that he was actually travelling at about 20mph when a car pulled out. He thinks the bag caught on his handlebar as he came off. I started this project thinking he was likely going quite fast, but 20mph? I don't even want to know what it would have done if he was going 60mph.
"I personally think this bag and the way it detaches is perfect and all leg bags should be like this, great quality material has been used."Feedback from the rider featured in this story.
The Reason SEVRA Exists
Mission Accomplished.
If the rider featured in this story is confident enough to wear our leg bag, we have done what we set out to achieve.
Retailers are stocking it, riders are wearing it and the UK riding community is taking notice. What started with a single post on a motorcycle group has turned into something real. We are just getting started and we are not slowing down.
